Spring Fling Writing Contest

I’m excited to share my story for the Spring Fling Writing Contest. Thank you to Kaitlyn and Ciara for organizing and hosting this opportunity.

Catching a Rainbow

Scout and Henry watch as drops of rain pour, hoping.

Finally, the sun breaks through, exposing a shimmering rainbow.

“Let’s go!” shouts Scout. Today they will catch a rainbow.

Scout looks up. Henry looks down, picking up a red rock. Plink, it goes into his bucket.

Scout turns left. “It’s down the street.”

Henry sees an orange flower. Pluck, into his bucket.

Scout keeps going.

“It’s in the park!”

“It’s over the creek!”

Henry follows, collecting a yellow leaf, green caterpillar, and blueberries. Ping, plunk, pop.

Scout continues chasing the colors.

“Hurry, the rainbow’s fading!”

Henry pulls off a purple lilac blossom. Patter.

Scout reaches the place where the rainbow ends. But, it’s gone.

“I really thought we’d catch it,” she cries.

“We did,” says Henry. “Look. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. See?”

Scout smiles. “You’re right. You caught the most beautiful rainbow I’ve ever seen.
