Stay-At-Home-Mom Starter Pack
Things I swore I would never do:
Be a stay-at-home mom
Blog about it
Things I am now doing:
Staying at home with my baby
Blogging about it
I mean, if you’re going to be a stay-at-home mom, there are a few mandatory things you need to become a card carrying member. A good starter pack should include:
Leggings (mostly of the black and high-waisted varieties)
Coffee, and vessels to easily drink from one-handed (bonus points if said vessels also have slightly snarky sayings on them)
Wine, and similar vessels
Witty hats to cover up dirty hair
A letterboard
A blog
Oh, and a baby.
Sutton joined us on April 22, 2019 at 4:53 a.m. Everyone says your entire life changes in that moment and I get it now. It really does. Suddenly, your whole heart lives outside of your body and all you want is for that little person to be happy, healthy, and safe. I also really wanted breakfast. Because, labor.
It didn’t take long for me to begin dreading the end of my maternity leave and inevitable return to work. Being the highly rational person I am I spent many 3 a.m. feedings researching very legitimate ways to make money including egg donation, direct marketing/ pyramid schemes, selling my kidneys on the black market, finding a sugar daddy…
My husband, who surprisingly wasn’t a big fan of those options, actually looked at our budget like an adult. He did some number crunching magic and we realized that we could make it work for me to stay home – and keep all my body parts intact.
So now begins my journey as a stay at home mom. I’ll be honest. I have no idea what that looks like for me or what I’m doing. I worked in advertising and public relations for a decade. I know next to nothing about childhood development. But that’s what the internet is for, right? To share our feelings and concerns. To google things in the middle of the night. To try to find some connection. To build a mom tribe. To give ourselves a well deserved digital pat on the back. To share cute pictures of our babies and snarky memes, sometimes at the same time.
I’d be honored if you would like to follow along on my mothering (maybe sometimes mis) adventures.
